At Institute of Froth we believe two key things: the ocean is good for your soul and surfing is meant to be fun! Our mission is to make people smile through discovering the joy of surfing. You can hear our intention in the name of our business - it is an Institute of Froth, i.e. an Institute of Fun. Our priority is to ensure that our clients feel safe and supported so that they are able to give surfing a good crack, with friendly guidance, and have fun doing it.

The Institute is the only surf school on the Central Coast (indeed, in the world) with permits to teach lessons on both North Avoca and Terrigal beach. Having access to these two beaches (being right next door to each other yet differing in aspect) means that no matter what the swell direction or wind conditions we will always be able to go out in the best waves for you to learn on. We choose the location depending on what the conditions are and what you are hoping to achieve that day.

Institute of Froth was founded by Jack AKA Mr Prime - a much loved primary school teacher who was born and bred in North Avoca. Over many years of teaching kids from the Central Coast, Sydney, Byron Bay and even London, he has discovered one fundamental truth: people learn best when they feel safe and are having fun. In Jack’s teaching career he has focused on sports education and kids’ mental wellbeing. He has seen firsthand how these elements intersect positively in a child’s development. A surfy dude at heart, it was Jack’s dream to combine these passions and expertise to open a surf school not just for kids, but for anyone who’s ever wanted to learn to surf. It is about teaching the skills of the sport, but also spreading the joy, sense of achievement and freedom it can bring. Jack spent 3 years living in the Byron Bay area, working and training as an expert surf instructor in the surf schools there. He is stoked to be able to bring his expertise back to his hometown and spread the stoke on the Central Coast.

Having grown up running down the steps at Tramway Road to hit the surf at sunrise, nobody knows the local breaks better than this guy and his dedicated team of fellow surf lovers. So come on and join the Institute, everyone is welcome!
